Initiating a Profile Update on Your CDMA Device#

Last updated by Isabel M

If you've recently activated your phone and it's not yet able to make phone calls or access data, running a Profile Update may get you up and running.

Before you start

Many LTE devices can run this update over Wi-Fi but if you're having trouble getting the update to start, or it fails before completing, you may need to disable Wi-Fi and enable data instead. Also, make sure that you're in an area with good, strong signal when you try this update.

Android devices#

There is some variation between Android phones in where you'll find the profile update option but you'll generally find it in one of a few places in the Settings menu:

  • Settings > About phone > System Updates > Update Profile
  • Settings > About Phone > Update Profile
  • Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Carrier Settings > Update Profile

Once you've selected "Update Profile," all you need to do is wait until it completes.

iOS devices#

On iOS devices, the profile update function is called a "Service Update" and this is the way to run it:

  1. Connect to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Go to the phone app
  3. Dial # # 873283 #
  4. Tap Call
  5. When the "Starting Service Update" message appears, tap OK
  6. When the "Service Update Complete" message appears (after 30-60 seconds), tap OK

Windows devices#

If you have a Windows phone running OS8, this is the pathway to the profile update option:

  • Settings > Network Profile Update > Update Profile > Done

If you have a Windows phone running OS7, this is the pathway to the profile update option:

  • Settings > Cellular > Change Network Profile > Close

iPads#

  1. Connect to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Tap the Settings app
  3. Tap General
  4. Tap Reset
  5. Tap Subscriber Services
  6. Tap Reprovision Account
  7. When the "Starting Service Update" message appears, tap OK
  8. When the "Service Update Complete" message appears (after 30-60 seconds), tap OK

Feature phones#

You can find the profile update option in most feature phones or non-smartphones in the same spot:

  • Menu > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Data > Update Data Profile

Once you've selected "Update Profile," all you need to do is wait until the update completes.

If you have any other questions about activating over the network, PRL and profile updates, you can find more info here.
